Atlanta is the kind of city where there is always something to keep you occupied. Whether you are into shopping, sports, community events or just a stroll in the park or among the many historical sites, you can stay busy any day of the week, in any season. As far as outdoor activities go, there is something to suit every taste and in particular you might find the sports, local parks, lakes and golfing opportunities to your liking.
Of course there are plenty of professional sports teams around to watch if you are so inclined, however, if you are the sort of proactive person who needs to participate, then there are also plenty of opportunities around the city. Something that could interest you is a membership in the Atlanta Outdoor Social Club –a group for regular people living in the city who want to get outside and get active. They organize a variety of hiking trips, camping expeditions, cave explorations and many more active social events that range from those you would participate in with your family to those you would prefer to tackle alone with other adults.
There are several parks in the city that offer a wide range of opportunities and activities for you and the family: basketball courts can be found at Candler, Central, Center Hill, Dodson, Empire and Rose Circle Parks as well as dozens of other locations across the city. Tennis courts are set up in Candler, Central, Grove, Brownwood, Adams and Wilson Mill Parks; playgrounds are located in Piedmont, Ellsworth, Washington, Empire and Dean Rusk Parks as well as in many more places citywide. Whatever regular sporting or play activities you might like to participate in, or bring your children to, there are so many wonderful parks in the area that cater to this need, that you only need to take a walk and see for yourself which offer what kind of facilities.
Metropolitan Atlanta is home to many lakes that offer a retreat from the scorching summer heat and a way to have fun with friends or family.
