Austell: A Gateway to Everywhere

The city of Austell, Georgia began as a salt spring, where animals congregated and men could come to find food to feed their families. The springs became famous for medicinal qualities that may or may not have actually been present, but the area became a popular destination for those seeking improved health through the power of the water. As more people came to the area, an impromptu camp was set up, which quickly grew. The owner of the lands, Mr. Mozeley, subdivided 40 acres and set it aside for town use. Thus the city of Austell was born.

Modern Austell is a city of green growing things combined with an attitude that encourages commerce. The city itself is located only 18 miles from Atlanta, making it ideal for commuters who don't want to live in the city, yet can't afford to live too far away from their jobs. With the proximity of I-20 via Thornton Rd and other major thoroughfares, Austell is an ideal location for families and other residents who love the convenience of Atlanta but desire a quieter life in the suburbs.

Austell has grown by leaps and bounds over the past two decades. Once a sleepy little town on the outskirts of the big city, Austell is now a bustling center of commerce in its own right. Austell, while providing a quick trip to rural Georgia, has become a gateway city of sorts. Many families find it ideal to live and work here. Austell's commitment to economic growth has spurred considerable development and other attractions are just a short drive away. Six Flags over Georgia is only a few miles down I-20 from Austell, and other attractions like White Water and American Adventures are located nearby, as well.

Austell's economic boom can be traced directly back to their retail developments. Many booming strip malls dot the area and offer residents and visitors the opportunity to shop with local craftsmen and artisans, as well as big name chain stores like Macy's and others. Austell is convenient to many other areas, such as Cumberland Mall, the city of Smyrna, Vinings, Marietta and Lithia Springs. Thornton Rd, which is also state Hwy 278 connects Austell directly with cities to the west, Dallas, Hiram and Rockmart and provides a direct route to the city of Rome.

Austell is a city committed to commerce, certainly, but they are also committed to attracting families and providing an ideal area to raise children. Through their vast network of public parks, Austell and the surrounding area offer an incredible opportunity to experience pristine natural environments. Sweet Water Creek State Park is a short drive to the south of town, and is one of the most beautiful places in the state. Austell is a great place to live, providing quick, easy access to Atlanta and other major cities in the area, but also provides families with a quiet, beautiful place to live and play.
