Castelberry Hill Neighborhood

Atlanta is home to a great many suburbs and neighborhoods, each with its own unique style, residents and atmosphere. Castelberry Hill, located south of the Georgia Dome, is a beautiful and prosperous area known for its historical buildings and character. In a more modern sense, however, Castelberry Hill is becoming known for its ties to the art world and for its somewhat trendy cafés and residents.

This neighborhood has been the backdrop for several famous movies, most notably Driving Miss Daisy, Sweet Home Alabama and Beauty Shop. Anyone can agree that these movies portrayed a sweet, country, down-home atmosphere that is most appealing. The trees and lawns were well-manicured, were almost perceptibly sweet-smelling, and the homes looked exactly the way you would imagine a country home to be. That is a great part of the charm of this part of the city – it doesn’t have that hard-driven city feel. Castelberry Hill is a more laid back part of the city and perhaps it is because of this that the more artistic types have been drawn in and have begun to multiply.

Art galleries abound in this historic area with most of them taking up space in Nineteenth Century lofts throughout the neighborhood. More than a dozen art galleries dot the Hill and bring in exclusive tourists who are specifically looking to take home a piece of the new, modern art that is bred in such an historic little part of Atlanta; a place originally famed for its place in the Civil War.

Going hand in hand with this artsy backdrop is the plethora of new coffee shops with eclectic designs and gourmet drinks and snacks on the menu. It is almost the way one pictures a New York suburb in the 60s or 70s: poets, artists, writers and philosophers gather for intelligent discourse in the coffee shops of Castelberry Hill before touring the art galleries and discussing the approaches taken by local, up and coming artists. This could be a perfect place to take up residence for some.

If you are looking for an apartment to rent in this area you will be pleasantly surprised to learn that there are places available for relatively low rent: you could pay anything from $600 to $800 for an apartment with a good view and a good location within the community. Undoubtedly this is a very trendy area of Atlanta, so much so that many people have yet to discover the unique qualities of Castelberry Hill because they have favored other suburbs with more blatant attractions like sports stadiums or universities; the lack of these facilities should not deter you, however. Being a small area of the city, it is no large feat to track down good schools nearby or to hop on the bus to catch a game at Turner Field. Come to Castelberry Hill for a taste of the new culture of metropolitan Atlanta!
