Cobb County School District

Cobb County is a school district that serves an area encompassing a very large portion of metropolitan Atlanta. Regions within the District are Kennesaw, Marietta, Smyrna, Acworth, Powder Springs and Austell. Elementary, middle, high, charter and special schools are included within this regional educational framework, and are subject to curriculum requirements, as well as health and safety maintenance.

Aside from the usual curriculum expectations, such as language arts, reading, mathematics, science, social, physical education, health and technology - Cobb County offers several different courses that are actually specialized to the needs of its diverse students.

Foreign languages classes are offered in the higher grades, as well as career guidance, agriculture and remedial classes for those in need. Aside from taking young students into consideration, Cobb County recognizes that it must cater to adult students and those who have primarily fallen out of the education system. To deal with this, there are specific administrative bodies within the District that cater to night schools and other vocational training classes that take place outside of the usual elementary/middle/high school levels.

Cobb County students are continually making grades that are above the national average, and as such, the teaching staff, at the more than 100 schools in the district, aim to keep their statistics up. The teachers in these schools are very often recipients of teaching awards and 41 percent of them have achieved the highest levels of post-secondary education before embarking on their teaching careers south of Atlanta.

The District is also dedicated to the maintenance of the health and well being of each of its students, and has dedicated staff on site at each of the schools to deal with any health issues or accidents that may require immediate treatment. The administration makes health information readily available for parents so that they can take precautions for conditions such as head lice or ring worm, and so that they can understand which conditions they should be informing the school about. Certain illnesses like asthma, diabetes, epilepsy or any condition that will require medication or possible treatment by a professional, should be recorded and put on file for a student and, unfortunately, parents forget or simply are unaware of this requirement. Cobb County School District does it utmost to ensure that these medical facts are gathered for each pupil and are on file should an emergency arise.

Another excellent feature of the Cobb County School District is that it offers student counseling services. The administration understands that not all students are on the same level in terms of how they learn, how they keep focused, and how they motivate themselves. Because of this, counselors are employed to seek out the students in need of a little help, and to do their best to help those children succeed to the best of their abilities.
