The Clifton Apartments were one of the greatest apartment complexes in Atlanta to live in. Sadly, this is no longer true after being purchased by the Connor Group. (If you Google The Connor Group, you will find more BAD publicity than good, even before their own website comes up). I have lived at The Clifton for 4 years now. I have never been late on rent, and have never been a resident who demands from management. I'm generally NOT the complaining type. Provide me with a satisfactory living community and I'm a happy camper. My lease is now up for renewal. I have been HOUNDED 70 days before I am required to give notice of whether I intend to stay or not. BUT, if I do decide to stay, my rent is being increased by 40%!!!!!!! ....and they want answers NOW! Their explanation....they are overbooked and need the apartment to rent at a higher rate. I find it very funny that the parking lot is 60% empty. Seems very suspicious to me. ( Can you say money laundering)? The day I was notified of my outrageous rental increase, a lady was walking out of the leasing office who had JUST rented the same apartment that I have been in for 4 years. We chatted for a few minutes...I'm a nice guy and started up with some small talk; my intentions being to extract some information. I discovered she signed a NEW lease on the same apartment that I currently occupy at 20% less than they want me to pay. What the hell is going on here? It is my opinion that the only reason that makes sense is money laundering. They increase penalties by 100's of percent , run out old tenants lying about their new rents, and the parking lots are almost empty. This happens within the real estate industry. The FBI should check out money laundering at The Clifton Apartments, because my experience says something very suspicious is going on. It is my suspicions that the Connnor Group is money laudering through investing in real estate.
