Sweet Auburn is a neighborhood in the city of Atlanta and forms the heart of the African American heritage in this southern city. Martin Luther King Jr.‘s home sits in this neighborhood and much of the heritage of the civil rights movement can be traced to it as well. Sweet Auburn has a rich history and a deep commitment to the future, as well. With all this heritage and renown, it is no wonder that Sweet Auburn is one of the most historic neighborhoods in Atlanta. This area is home to many commemorative museums, schools of higher learning and still remains a largely residential area.
The area is steeped in civil rights heritage and the residents are proud of where they live. Many new businesses have recognized the potential of the area and are beginning to set up shop next door to enterprises that have been in business for generations. The residents are open and welcoming to new residents and businesses alike. With the open arms of welcome and the great sense of community pride, Sweet Auburn is a fantastic place to live, work and play.

The Apex Museum, a museum of African American art, history and heritage.
Atlanta Life Insurance Group: Founded in 1905 by a freed slave, Alonso Herndon, the Atlanta Life Insurance Group is the second largest Black owned insurance company in the country.
Auburn Avenue Research Library: Research on African American history and culture.
Big Bethel AME: Morris Brown College was founded in the basement of this church. Big Bethel was founded in 1847 and has played a major role in the civil rights movement.
King Center for Non-Violent Social Change: Established in 1968 by Coretta Scott King, this is the living legacy of Dr. King.
True Colors Theatre Company: A theatre company dedicated to the pursuit of truth and clarity. The theater company explores productions from many different time periods and cultures.
There are many more attractions hidden away within Sweet Auburn, most of them related to civil rights or community pride, but not all of them. In addition to these, there are parks where festivals and fairs are held, schools, churches and, most of all, homes. Sweet Auburn, for all its trappings of power and prestige is still a residential area that is home to many proud residents.
